from Jill in Oz: Richard & Martha left England from London or Plymouth on the 22nd December 1846 on the "Phoebe" & arrived in South Australia at Port Adelaide on the 28th March 1847. They came as "free emigrants". Also on the "Phoebe" came James Shackley, Martha's brother & her sister Hannah who married Ezra Bonham had arrived in South Australia the previous year in April (1846). Eli Griffin & his wife Elizabeth Bonham along with Ephraim & Thomas Bonham all from Buckinghamshire were also on the "Phoebe". Sarah Griffin - Eli & Elizabeth's daughter later married Richard & Martha's son Thomas & had 15 children. Richard & Martha lived on "Pitchgreen Farm" in the district of Inverbrackie just out of Woodside, South Australia from 1848 onwards. Martha died 19th January 1896 at home on "Pitchgreen Farm" ( died suddenly of paralysis - which may have been a stroke ) Richard died 9th June 1913 at home on "Pitchgreen Farm". Both Richard & Martha were buried at Inverbrackie Cemetery & their headstone is still there. They were survived by 12 of their 14 children of which 2 had died in infancy. -- William married Charlotte Ann Chamberlain 25th Dec 1873 in S.Aust - they had 9 children - Don & Eva are descendants of this line Thomas married 5th Feburary 1874 in S.Aust - they had 15 children Mary Ann married John Butterworth 10th February 1881 in S.Aust - they had 2 children Edna married Thomas Symes 4th April 1877 - they had 12 children Robert married Alice Sophia Algar 5th April 1877 - they had 11 children Hannah married George Fielder Elliott 22nd Jan 1877 - they had 5 children John married Sarah Cliff 11th Oct 1881 - they had 4 children - Sarah died then John married Martha Ann Ridgway 10 June 1896, who appears to be connected somehow to the "Roads" Family Tree of Buckinghamshire compiled by Heather Rohrer on http://awt.ancestry.co.uk Sarah Jane married James Ransome Payne 19th April 1884 in S.Aust - they had 3 children - this is my line Richard married Margaret Howatson Mitchell 23rd August 1883 in S.Aust - they had 2 children. Margaret died & Richard married Agnes Forsyth 25 April 1888 - they had 1 child. Richard & Agnes were the only ones that I know of to go back to England to visit family in Bucks, which from memory was around 1910-11 before Richard Snr died. Martha married George Robert Sanders in 1901 in S.Aust. George was a widower with 5 children Moses married Helena (Leah) McNamara 10th December 1894 in S.Aust - no issue Susan married Heinrich Preiss 28th September 1887 in S.Aust - they had 2 children --- William died 5th June 1918 & is buried at Dimboola Cemetery, Victoria Thomas died 3rd October 1933 & is buried at Orroroo Cemetery, South Australia Mary Ann died 9th May 1939 & is buried at North Brighton Cemetery, Adelaide, South Australia Edna died 2nd April 1923 & is buried at Brookton Cemetery, Western Australia Robert died 22nd Aug 1939 & is buried at Cowell Cemetery, South Australia Hannah born 4th June 1855 & died 16 Apr 1856 & is buried at Hay Valley Cemetery between Woodside & Nairne, South Australia. Hannah died of gastroenteritis Hannah died 26th June 1946 & is buried at Cheltenham Cemetery, Adelaide, South Australia John died 20th November 1927 & is buried at Mitcham Cemetery, Adelaide, South Australia Sarah Jane died 25th September 1944 & is buried at Midland Cemetery, Perth, Western Australia Richard died 7th June 1944 & is possibly buried near Hunter's Hill, Sydney, New South Wales Martha died 17th October 1920 & is buried at Summertown Cemetery, South Australia Moses died 5th September 1942 & is buried at Orroroo Cemetery, South Australia Joseph died 10th February 1866 & is buried at Hay Valley Cemetery between Woodside & Nairne, South Australia. Susan died 2nd September 1972 & is buried at Tumby Bay Cemetery, South Australia
