![]() The Church from across the village green ![]() The Old School House from the Church gate ![]() The Church from the gate. There was a tower on the left. The blue plaque explains that it is no longer in use, but is being preserved. ![]() from the rear, showing where the tower was demolished. ![]() from the other side, the former tower now on the right. ![]() The giant key was obtained from the house opposite. ![]() Looking towards the altar - where William Smith married Elizabeth Hatfield in 1840. ![]() and back to the font where they were probably both baptised ![]() back out by the gate. On the other side is a plaque to Margaret, wife of John Smith. Could these be the John & Maria Smith in the 1841 Census? There were no other Smiths in the Preston Gubbals census, and only one other Smith grave in the churchyard - apparently George Smith and looking older than this one. ![]() 'Gubbals House' - just down the road. Marked on the 1888 map as the vicarage. |
