all note in italics from Ron. re Frederick's parents: Jesse Smith was English and married in Wales to Emily and came back to Bristol leaving Sam who was the eldest, a mining worker.
They lived at Clay Bottom St George Bristol. Jesse's Father was a Joseph Smith a railway policeman at Charfield then later a signalman at Mangotsfield. Two of Frederick's brothers emigrated to Australa. While Sam was a miner in South Wales (Treherbert? / Treharris?).

- Frederick was supposed to to work for the railway but it fell through. He got a job as a docker at Avonmouth, but the wages were not good, so he walked to and from work each day a total of 12 miles. the Smiths rented the cottage from the rail company. A family named Maggs owned the market garden. Frederick was later a lamplighter and Elsie and Mabel had to clean his pole every day.

- Agnes Mabel Smith 1919 went to the Empire Theatre on the evening and at 6am the following morning was found dead in bed, apparently from the flu pandemic. Frederick took the death of Agnes Mabel very hard he did not know until he reached Temple Meads on his way home. He had his rifle and ammunition and said he was going to shoot them all and himself. Fred Smith who was about fifteen talked him out of it after a long and distressing few hours.

- The Randall family lived in Downend Bristol, John Randall owned a large timber yard, in Fishponds (long gone), his son Henry married Ethel Smith in 1928. They lived in Rocklands Road Downend Bristol.
- Henrys sister Sarah was living in Canada,and died. Her body was brought back, and buried in Greenbank cemetary. She had a daughter, Sadie Bruton, Sadie who Henry and Ethel took on. she is now eighty years old and lives in Anglesey.

- Agnes Mabel and Lionel Crew lived in Rene Rd Easton at one end of the rank and Elsie and Fred Fido lived at the other end. Harold and Gladys (and me) lived in Heron Rd Easton about 300 yards away, we were the only ones Bombed Out and moved in with Mabel and Lionel in Rene Rd. Fireman Lionel was a war time hero in Bristol.
