Most of Brighton Street, Heckmondwike has been demolished and rebuilt, but the pub looks original. The 21 year old Joseph and his brothers would have been familiar with it.

The derelict Church and graveyard are at the top of the next street, but it is not known whether it was used for Sunday services or just for funerals.
